https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-body_problem
In the movie, the 3-body problem was a problem in a game where the people living in this game were on an “earth” associated with three suns. The movement of three suns can sometimes create an environment that facilitates the proliferation of living on this earth, but sometimes it can also create devastating disasters. The first objective of the game was to determine the pattern of movements of the three suns to forecast the disasters or favorable conditions for living to plan human activities on this planet. In the movie, though people in the game found several patterns, it couldn’t cover all the situations as there were too many exceptions. The conclusion was that human beings could not use their knowledge to describe this pattern, so the only solution was to leave the planet.
Questioning:
Do we have other similar 3-body problems in life?
Associating:
In real life, we also have similar three-body problems in which we try to find a pattern but with no conclusion. Experience, education, and natural gifts are like three suns but don’t necessarily form the same career outcome. I have heard many stories that some friends with similar backgrounds end up in different careers. Some are very satisfied, but some are not. I think the 3-body problem gave me some hints. Probably, there are some patterns, but they can’t cover all the situations, as there can be too many exceptions. It could relate to many other outside factors that my knowledge can’t solve. I can do the same as the people in the game: leave my current job find another and keep trying. Though the result is not always guaranteed, having tried out when I can leave me with fewer regrets.
